Community Supported Fisheries

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal talked about Community Supported Fisheries (or CSFs)-a way for folks to get fish that follows the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model where people buy a share of the produce, or in this case, buy a share of a fisherman’s catch.  Read more here.

The article brings up an interesting point that local doesn’t always translate to ocean-friendly.

As an example, one of the fish that members of the CSF received this week was Atlantic Cod.  Blue Ocean gives this fish a red ranking, in part due to low population levels.

What considerations do you keep in mind when you select a fish to eat?

The great recipe you just found online?

How far the fish traveled to get to you?

The catch or farm method used?
