Blue Swimmer Crabs grow quickly, reach sexual maturity around age one, and live for three years. Blue Swimmer Crabs are caught in a number of countries in the Indian Ocean and Western Central Pacific.

In Australia, abundance of Blue Swimmer Crab is likely at a healthy level and the fishery is well-managed. Most Blue Swimmer Crabs are caught with pots or traps, which result in some damage to the seafloor and low to moderate levels of bycatch.
