Southern and Northern Rock Soles are commercially important Pacific groundfish in Alaskan waters. Rock Soles grow at a moderate rate and can live up to 30 years.

Thanks to successful management measures, Rock Sole are at high levels of abundance throughout their range. Bottom trawling for Rock Soles takes place over sand/mud habitats, which are not as damaged by trawling as other habitats can be. There are some concerns about catches of non-target species.
