Sturgeon, Caspian Sea
With a lifespan up to 100 years, Beluga Sturgeon are naturally vulnerable to fishing pressure. Poor management, overfishing, pollution, and habitat destruction have contributed to severe population declines of this and other Caspian Sea sturgeon species. The high value of caviar has posed a major obstacle to stemming illegal trade in caviar.
This fish may have high levels of mercury and PCBs that could pose a health risk to adults and children. More contaminant and mercury info here.
