Wreckfish – U.S.

Wreckfish are a slow growing, long-lived species of fish found along rocky slopes in temperate waters throughout the Atlantic Ocean and in parts of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. In the U.S., most fishing for Wreckfish occurs on the Blake Plateau, off South Carolina and Georgia.

The abundance of Wreckfish in U.S. waters is unknown, but significant management regulations are in place. Wreckfish are caught with hook and line, a fishing method that causes little damage to the bottom habitat and has a low amount of bycatch.
